A Wander of Wonder - Exhibition and New Book!

I haven't updated this blog for far too long, 2020 has been such an odd year from going so slowly it's like wading through treacle to spinning by so fast you forget to blink. I was working on completing my book and exhibition at the end of the summer which culminated in the show at Circle Space in September. Thanks so much to all those who came!

I illustrated the book in response to a poem I had written some time ago about the need to be and to see, to move and to make. You don't need to move far to build yourself a different perspective. I also made some of the creatures from the books and illustrations as textile pieces, dancing mushroom dresses and woodland animals merged with their forest funghi. The concertina books (below) were limited edition at 50 and sold out at the show. I loved hand making these and using fabrics I'd collected in Japan for the enclosures so they were well travelled little books!

Since then I have published some small editions with squareback binding , they have matt laminate covers and are on lovely eggshell papers. These 22 page books are available in the shop here and I've had the loveliest feedback, to uplift the soul was my goal and I'm so pleased these have brought cheer. I also really enjoyed getting away from a screen for the illustration combining pencils, collage with more of my collection of Japanese papers and fabrics, pan pastels and watercolour.

So now I am in super busy mode with Christmas orders but once that is over and I can breathe again the plan is to focus on the next book and taking these two characters on another journey!
